The Dear Child Project

365 letters of faith, love, and guidance. One powerful message for the next generation.

What is The Dear Child Project?

In 2017, Mayra’s son, Jonathan Darling, went missing in California’s Coachella Valley. For three years, Mayra held on to hope, writing letters to her son on social media in the hope that he, or someone who knew him, would find them.

As she shared her heart, something unexpected happened. Mothers began reaching out to Mayra, sharing how her words inspired them to build new and deeper relationships with their own children.

In June 2020, after three years of waiting, Mayra’s hope of bringing her son home came to an end. As part of her journey toward healing, The Dear Child Project was born in 2023: a daily devotional featuring 365 letters from mothers to their children, filled with faith, love, wisdom, and guidance.

Today, this meaningful project is just 55 letters away from completion!

Mayra is inviting women to help bring this vision to life by contributing the remaining letters needed to complete the devotional. The goal is to make publication possible before the end of 2026, ahead of the trial scheduled for 2027.

How Can You Be Part of The Project?

We invite you to prayerfully consider contributing a letter of your own. Your words could become a lasting source of encouragement, wisdom, and love for a child and a reminder of the powerful impact a mother's words can have.

Together, we can help Mayra bring The Dear Child Project to completion and turn a deeply personal journey into a legacy of faith, love, and hope for generations to come.

Only 55 letters remain. Will you help Mayra complete the story?
